Rohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex

Rohrbach Stadium Tennis ComplexRohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex

The remodeled, eight-court Rohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex hosts the St. Mary's varsity tennis teams. The complex features six resurfaced courts, two brand-new courts, permanent bleachers with a shade structure and lights to allow for evening competition. The facility should draw regional audiences as it could vie for events such as United States Tennis Association tournaments and Intercollegiate Tennis Association regionals. The facility also provides a finishing touch to its neighboring facility, the beautiful Alumni Athletics & Convocation Center, which was completed just over a decade ago.

The stadium courts were named after Brother Ed Rohrbach, considered one of the pioneers of the program after coaching the men's tennis team from 1954 through 1975. He also coached St. Mary's first singles champion, Juve Gonzalez, who won the Big State Conference singles title back-to-back years in the mid-1950s.

The plans for the facility coincide with the University's mission, which as a Catholic Marianist University is to foster the formation of people in faith and educate leaders for the common good through community, integrated liberal arts and professional education, and academic excellence. The complex figures to become a vital part of the community of the West Side of San Antonio, with it being able to host a variety of activities and programs designed to meet the interests and needs of the public. These activities could include youth sports clinics, athlete autograph-signing opportunities, festivals and concerts, and the collection of food items at the facilities to help people in the community.
